Skincare is a science! We wrote about some skincare ingredients that you shouldn’t mix together, but there are many ingredients that can have extra benefits when combined.
Sunscreen & Antioxidants
Sunscreen alone does not block infrared radiation or visible light [1]. When mixed with sunscreen, antioxidants are able to reduce the production of free radicals by over 75%. When added to sunscreen, antioxidants are able to reduce the production of free radicals by up to 78% [2].
Resveratrol & Glycolic Acid
Resveratrol is an antioxidant found in grapes that is known to reduce pigmentation and has anti-aging properties. It inhibits tyrosinase, the key enzyme in the production of melanin. A hybrid of glycolic acid and resveratrol, resveratryl triglycolate, has been shown to reduce sun induced pigmentation when applied twice daily for 6-8 weeks. When investigated separately, this combination of resveratrol and glycolic acid inhibited tyrosinase more effectively than glycolic acid alone [3].
